From pubs to critical refrigeration
Where we started
We cut our teeth working on refrigeration in pubs, hotels, bottle shops and hospitality venues across the Sunshine Coast and hinterland. This is where we learned that reliability isn't optional — when a pub's beer system or a bottle shop's cold room goes down on a Friday night, it's an emergency.
Moving into specialist work
We then progressed into more specialised refrigeration work, often contracting to larger refrigeration and engineering firms. This exposed us to systems far beyond ordinary commercial refrigeration — where temperature control protects product worth millions of dollars.
Where that led
That progression led to experience with vaccine refrigeration, pharmaceutical facilities, data halls, process cooling, chilled water, glycol systems, hatchery systems, large-scale cold storage, food logistics and critical refrigeration — work where getting it right is not negotiable.
We won't claim we've worked on every type of refrigeration system — but the range below is genuine, built over more than two decades of real work across Queensland.

Victory Hotel — Renovations
2005
Refrigeration work completed as part of the Victory Hotel renovations. The rooms from this project are still standing today — a testament to build quality that lasts.
Bottlemart Cellars — Beerwah Marketplace
2007
Commercial refrigeration work completed for Bottlemart Cellars at Beerwah Marketplace.
Bottlemart Palmwoods Drive-Through
2008
Commercial refrigeration work completed for the Bottlemart Palmwoods Drive-Through.
Palmwoods Cellars

Buderer Cellars

Woombye Hotel Drive-Through Extension
2014
Commercial refrigeration work completed as part of the Woombye Hotel Drive-Through Extension.
Bridge Bottle Shop — Nambour (Equipment Relocation)
2014
The old Bridge Bottle Shop installation was demolished in 2014. The refrigeration equipment was removed and relocated to the Woombye Drive-Through project — including a 17-door insert refrigeration system and associated refrigeration equipment.
Cool room & cold storage projects
Cool rooms, rebuilds & custom cold storage
Custom cool room builds, rebuilds and specialist cold storage — including equipment relocation and long-term service life.
Suncoast Flowers — Cool Room Rebuild
The existing Suncoast Flowers cool room was demolished and rebuilt. A new outdoor condensing unit was installed while the existing evaporators were retained. The existing evaporators are approximately 34 years old and remain in service in a room approximately 19 years old — proof that well-maintained refrigeration equipment outlasts expectations.
Private Butcher Cold Rooms — Nanango
PJ Refrigeration and Airconditioning has built purpose-built cold rooms for private butcher operations in Nanango. These are custom builds designed around the specific carcass-handling, storage and temperature requirements of a working butcher shop.
Custom Home Cold Rooms & Wine Storage
PJ Refrigeration and Airconditioning has designed and built custom cold rooms for private homes and wine collections. Not all of these projects can be photographed or publicly displayed because they are located inside private residences and contain clients' private wine collections. We respect client privacy and security — private customer information, addresses and photographs are never published without permission.

Our experience extends well beyond standard commercial refrigeration. These systems require an understanding of the wider process and environment they support — not just the refrigeration circuit itself.
Major pharmaceutical refrigeration experience
Pharmaceutical drug vault — approximately $230 million of product at risk
One of the most significant refrigeration breakdowns serviced by PJ Refrigeration and Airconditioning involved a pharmaceutical drug vault containing approximately $230 million worth of pharmaceutical product.
The work involved servicing the refrigeration breakdown and restoring reliable operation. The client and specific facility are not identified for confidentiality reasons. No additional details about the incident have been added.
The purpose of sharing this is simple: it demonstrates experience working on refrigeration where reliability and temperature control are critical — where a failure doesn't just cost a service call, it puts product worth millions at risk.
Major food logistics experience
Large-scale cold storage — approximately $10 million in food
PJ Refrigeration and Airconditioning has looked after a major cold-storage system containing approximately $10 million worth of food.
The facility supported food logistics for:
- Remote islands and communities throughout Far North Queensland
- General Cairns holding requirements
- National food logistics
This demonstrates experience with refrigeration infrastructure protecting extremely valuable temperature-sensitive stock — the kind of system where a failure affects entire supply chains, not just one business.
